Travel Impact Assessment

1st October 2015 Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board welcomes today’s publication of the review of evidence on the possible effect of travel times and distances to maternity services on birth outcomes. Prof Matt Makin, the Health Board’s Medical Director who has been attending public meetings as part of the consultation process said: “When we have been out talking to the public about maternity services, I think the question that comes up most often is whether we have looked at how travel times affect outcomes. “Of course this is a really important question when we are looking at services across an area the size of North Wales. We asked Public Health Wales to carry out an in-depth review of all the existing evidence and literature on this subject, both from the UK and abroad. “They have now completed this work and we are pleased that we have the opportunity to share it with the public while the consultation is still underway. “This information will be considered by Board members, alongside the results of the consultation and the other evidence that they need to take account of, when we make our decision about the best way forward.” View Report
